Add Ingredients, Mix and Freeze

making-cake-no-melt-2

Creating a suet cake is so easy, even your kids can do it!  Just add your meat fat, mix in ingredients of your choice ( in the photo above we used the year round recipe + raisins ), freeze, release the suet cake from the You Do It Suet® mold and place in any standard sized suet cage.

In the above photo you can see how we added each ingredient, one step at a time and the mixed it all up at the end. Get creative, use fun ingredients like: almonds, walnuts, shelled sunflower seeds, dried coconut, herbs and maybe a dash of cayenne pepper to help deter small critters.

If you are creating a suet cake for use during the warmer temperatures ( 70 degrees and above ) be sure to use the year round recipe and follow the steps to the tee.  Normally we like to just throw in anything we want and mix it up, but for the suet cake to hold up during the hotter temperatures, you must use the exact amount of each ingredient as listed or your suet cake will melt.
