Summer Bird Feeder

We have several bird feeder styles in our yard and for good reason. If you want to attract a variety of birds to your yard you must offer several types of seed. Wild birds enjoy eating a variety of seeds, fruit, nuts and nectar.  We generally place a different seed in each feeder and also offer jelly feeders and nectar feeders.

A seed bird feeder is the perfect year round feeding station that will attract the most variety of birds. Feed black oil sunflower seed year round. Try safflower seed to deter squirrels. Thistle seed is a nice addition to your bird feeder that will attract birds will small beaks. Some of the songbirds you may see at your seed feeder are:

  • Chickadees
  • House Finches
  • Tufted Titmice
  • Blue Jays
  • Grosbeaks
  • Cardinals
  • House Sparrows
  • Nuthatches
  • Woodpeckers
  • Doves
  • Goldfinches

A jelly bird feeder is easy to use and can even be made using materials in your home. You can simply place a small dish filled with grape or strawberry jelly on a deck, table, stump or attached to a metal holder in your yard. The jelly feeder will attract birds such as:

  • Orioles
  • Red-bellied woodpeckers
  • Grosbeaks
  • House Finches

A nectar bird feeder is the perfect Summer treat for many wild birds. Nectar consists of sugar and water. It is very easy to make at home and can be placed in a small dish served on your deck. A nectar feeder will attract birds such as:
